2024 MotoGP™ Season Preview

Published by on February 12, 2024

With 22 rounds scheduled, 2024 will be the most eventful MotoGP™ season yet. It's going to be another blockbuster year of track action, with Lusail in Qatar kicking things off on March 10 and Valencia closing things out on November 17 at Ricardo Tormo. It is safe to say motorsport fans have a lot to look forward to this year!

KEY CHANGES FOR THE 2024 MOTOGP™ SEASON

MotoGP™ will touch down in a new region of the world in 2024 with the addition of the stunning Sokol International Racetrack. A brand-new circuit in the heart of Central Asia, Sokol is just outside Kazakstan's largest city, Almaty.

There will be changes to the grid in 2024, including eight-time world champion Marc Márquez leaving Repsol Honda, after a fruitful 11-year association, and joining Gresini Racing, riding alongside his younger brother Alex.

Young superstar, Pedro Acosta, will also land at GASGAS Factory Racing Tech3, with team presentations giving us the first glimpse of all new line-ups and team colours.

And MotoGP's newest team is debuting in 2024, with RNF being taken over by Trackhouse Racing. Their NASCAR background and US-base will undoubtedly add a new dimension to the grid, though they will keep Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez as their riders.

2024 MOTOGP™ RACE FORMATS

Race formats have generally remained unchanged aside from minor amendments. The race directors may place a white flag during the warmup lap of a sprint or race to indicate bike changes are permitted due to rain. There is no further penalty for riders who enter pit lane to change tyres or bikes and start the race from pit lane after doing so.

From 2024, all Grand Prix classes must use fuel made from non-fossil sources at least 40% of the time. A 100% non-fossil fuel policy will be in place by 2027, for all Grand Prix classes.

MOTOGP MILESTONES IN 2024

The big milestone for 2024 is of course the 75th anniversary of the first race counting towards world championship classification (held at the Isle of Man), as well as the first premier class race held in June 1949. The 75 year anniversary theme is expected to be very prominant this season.

Stepping out in Gresini racing colours for the first time, Marc Marquez will also attempt to equal the record of Rossi, Hailwood, and Ubbiali with a ninth world title.
